Young Consulting Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving Young Consulting LLC (“Young Consulting”), a third-party vendor who provides risk management services for health insurance provider Blue Shield of California. The Company confirmed that 955,717 health plan members had their information taken in a data breach incident according to a filing with the Maine Attorney General.
What Happened at Young Consulting?
On or around April 13, 2024, an unauthorized user gained access to Young Consulting’s system. Young Consulting retained a cybersecurity firm to conduct further investigation to confirm the scope of the breach.
Following the investigation’s completion, it was confirmed that the personal information belonging to a large number of individuals with Blue Shield of California health insurance was compromised as a result. The information compromised may have included, but not limited to the following: full name; social security number, date of birth; history of address for prior two to five years; proof of current address including copies of current utility or telephone bill; photocopy of government issued identification card including driver’s license, ID card, or military identification; copy of police report or investigative report or complaint made to a law enforcement agency.
