UPS, DHL, FedEx Import Fee Overcharge – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating potential class action claims on behalf of consumers who may have been charged inflated import fees by major shipping carriers, including UPS, DHL, and FedEx.

With the recent elimination of the $800 de minimis threshold that officially took effect on August 29, 2025, all packages shipped into the United States are now subject to customs duties regardless of value. While major marketplaces like Temu, Shein, and Amazon Haul have largely adjusted their pricing to include these duties upfront, this change has created significant fee issues for consumers purchasing from independent international sellers on platforms like eBay, Etsy, and TikTok Shop, specialized storefronts using direct express shipping; or other retailers where duties were not collected at checkout.

Reports indicate that consumers expecting these packages via UPS, DHL, or FedEx are receiving notifications demanding payment of import fees before delivery. These fees often start at $30 or higher and frequently exceed the value of the purchased items. Crucially, these charges often include not just the government mandated tariff but substantial brokerage, advancement, or handling fees imposed by the shipping carriers themselves which were never disclosed at the time of purchase.

If you were required to pay an inflated import fee for a package shipped by UPS, FedEx, or DHL, please fill out the form below with details of your experience.
