CSKD is investigating a potential class action against Reliant Holdings, Inc. that is alleged to have targeted financially vulnerable consumers with ads that promised a “credit card” when, in reality, Reliant charged consumers substantial fees to access what was really a membership program where the “credit card” could only be used to make purchases from Reliant’s Horizon Outlet (an online store selling a poor, rotating selection of often over-priced or off-brand goods) and other products (like a prescription card and roadside assistance that had limited value).=

Reliant marketed these “credit cards” under numerous brand names including Boost Platinum Card, Freedom Gold Card, Group One Platinum Card Horizon Gold Card, Independence Gold Card, Innovation Platinum Card, Merit Platinum Card, Net First Platinum Card, Principal Platinum Card, and Focus Gold Card.

Because of Reliant’s allegedly deceptive conduct and the extremely limited usefulness of these “credit cards” most customers quickly dropped out of the membership program without either card or any other products, and then paid fees to Reliant receiving nothing of value in return. Reliant also purportedly made it difficult for consumers to cancel these memberships and obtain refunds.
