McLaren Health Care Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving McLaren Health Care System (“McLaren”) , a healthcare system based out of Grand Blanc, Michigan.
What Happened at McLaren?
Specifically, it is reported that McLaren experienced a ransomware attack on or around August 6, 2024 resulting in a system outage rendering the online patient portal inaccessible to patients. McLaren has also confirmed that they had also received a ransom note from INC Ransom, a cybercriminal group, who are threatening to exposure of any stolen patient data if McLaren does not pay the demanded ransom amount.
McLaren has yet to confirm the exact scope of the breach and the information that may have been compromised as result.
