Magellan All LeadCare Blood Lead Testing Systems Patient Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP (CSK&D) is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of patients and third party payors against Meridian Bioscience related to a blood lead testing system sold by its subsidiary, Magellan Diagnostics Inc. The Food and Drug Administration issued a Safety Notice on May 17, 2017 “warning Americans that certain lead tests manufactured by Magellan Diagnostics may provide inaccurate results for some children and adults in the United States” and recommending that parents of young children, pregnant women and nursing mothers who have been tested for lead exposure with this device “consult a health care professional about whether they should be retested.” The FDA warning indicates that it is based on data which indicates that “Magellan lead tests, when performed on blood drawn from a vein, may provide results that are lower than the actual level of lead in the blood.”

CSK&D is investigating whether Magellan Diagnostics is covering the costs of these necessary venous lead re-tests. If you had or paid for a Magellan Diagnostics blood-drawn lead test before May 17, 2017 and now have to obtain a second test, please contact the attorneys below.
