LendingTree Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving LendingTree through its subsidiary Quote Wizard; an online site providing insurance quotes for car insurance plans.
What Happened at LendingTree?
According to recent news reports, an unauthorized user gained access to Quote Wizard’s account, the cloud storage that the company uses to store voluminous amounts of customer and employee data. The hacker claiming responsibility has boasted that the large cache of data involved includes approximately 190 million customer profiles. The customer data includes the following: name, email, auto history, driving records, personal background of drivers used for determination of insurance quotes. Additionally, about 3 billion tracking pixels associated with these customers have also been potentially compromised through the breach. These tracking pixels contain personally identifying information for individuals perusing LendingTree’s websites.
