Hand & Stone Privacy Lawsuit- Online Tracking of Health Information
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP has filed a federal class action lawsuit against Hand & Stone Franchise LLC and Hand & Stone Franchise Corp., alleging that the company unlawfully shared customers’ sensitive health and personal information with major technology platforms without their consent.
According to the Complaint, Hand & Stone embedded third-party tracking technologies on its website that allegedly transmitted information entered by users, including health-related service selections and appointment activity, to companies such as Facebook, Google, TikTok, and Amazon for marketing and advertising purposes.
The lawsuit alleges that the information shared included personal identifiers such as IP addresses, location data, and device information linked to users’ existing social media or technology accounts, allowing health-related activity to be associated with identifiable individuals. Customers were allegedly not informed of, nor did they consent to, this data sharing.
This case is currently pending in federal court. The court has not certified a class, and no findings on the merits have been made.
