Court Grants Preliminary Approval of Audi BSG Settlement

April 12, 2024 – The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey granted preliminary approval of a class action settlement involving allegedly defective Belt Start Generators (or “BSGs”) in over 169,000 Audi vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2023.

In the settlement agreement, Audi has agreed to reimburse certain repair costs including BSGs and batteries, reimburse towing and alternative transportation (such as rental cars, ride share, train, etc.), and provide a ten-year warranty on the class vehicles’ BSGs.

Additionally in the settlement agreement, Audi indicates that it will likely conduct a future service action to proactively replace the BSGs in certain Settlement Class vehicles and that all replacement BSGs will be covered under the ten-year warranty as well.

Attorneys Timothy Mathews and Alex Kashurba of Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith are co-appointed counsel for the class, along with their co-counsel.

Notice of the settlement will be mailed, and a settlement website will be available, no later than July 11, 2024.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 7, 2024.
