Change Healthcare Data Breach  – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving Change Healthcare, Inc (“Change”). Change is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s Optum division that offers healthcare technology services and payment processing for patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacies.

On February 21, 2024, Change had discovered that hackers had breached part of its network that forced Change’s systems to go offline. Information stolen from the network may include the personal identifying and sensitive health data of millions of individuals including medical records, insurance records, dental records, payment information, claims information, health data, contact information, and social security numbers.

Additionally, Change’s system going offline disrupted various healthcare systems across the country preventing healthcare providers and pharmacies from checking a patient’s eligibility for treatment and filling prescriptions electronically. As result of this disruption, patients have been charged hundreds or even thousands more dollars than what they normally pay for prescriptions that were usually covered by their insurance. Patients are forced to either pay the higher cost for these prescriptions or forego their usual monthly fill as their prescriptions are unaffordable due to the breach.

If you believe your personal or medical data was compromised by this breach, and/or have experienced issues with monthly prescription fills being too expensive as result of the breach, please fill-out the form provided below.
