BetterMe Rx Oral Tirzepatide Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating the marketing and sale of so-called oral tirzepatide products sold through BetterMe Rx (bettermerx.com), a telehealth platform marketing compounded GLP-1 weight loss treatments directly to consumers across all 50 states.

What Is the Concern?

Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro® and Zepbound®, which are FDA-approved injectable medications. Tirzepatide is a peptide, and there is no clinical evidence establishing that it can produce a therapeutic effect when delivered orally, sublingually, or in tablet form. Despite this, BetterMe Rx markets a daily compounded oral tirzepatide tablet, advertised as a needle-free option that supposedly supports weight loss by reducing appetite, and prices the product at hundreds of dollars per month.

The FDA has warned that unapproved versions of GLP-1 drugs, including compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, do not undergo FDA review for safety, effectiveness, or quality before being marketed, and that patients may face risks from products that have not been tested in large-scale clinical trials.

Who May Be Affected?

You may have relevant information if you:

  • Were told or led to believe that the BetterMe Rx oral tirzepatide product was equivalent to Mounjaro®, Zepbound®, or another FDA-approved GLP-1 medication
  • Did not experience meaningful weight loss while taking the product
  • Paid significant out-of-pocket costs for the product
  • Experienced side effects or quality concerns with a BetterMe Rx oral tirzepatide product
