Chevy Bolt Vehicle Fire – Class Action Investigation

CSK&D is investigating a potential class action case concerning reports that 2017- 2022 Chevrolet Bolts EV carry risk of fire related to a problem with the battery cell. Specifically, both a torn anode tab and folded separator in the battery creates conditions leading to a possible short in affected cells. GM has identified 10 fire-related incidents that can be traced back to faulty batteries. About 142,000 vehicles are affected by this recall.

GM has mentioned they will replace the batteries in the affected vehicles, but no specific timeline has been offered to owners. For the indefinite future, owners are told to park their vehicles outside and to limit the battery’s state of charge to 90% or lower. Additionally it is recommended that the estimated range not go below 70 miles.
