PrepHero Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is actively investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving PrepHero. PrepHero is a Chicago-based company that provides student athletes applying for different colleges with a platform designed to assist them with potential recruitment and/or scholarship opportunities.
What happened at PrepHero?
According to recent articles, on or around May 12, 2025, vpnMentor’s cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowles discovered an exposed, unsecured database comprised of personal identifying information belonging to an estimated 3 million individuals including athletes and college athletic coaches using the platform.
Based on the initial survey of the information found, it is believed that the information compromised as a result of this breach includes, but not limited to, the following: name, phone number, mailing address, email address, passport details including passport images, and potentially other PII.
