CSKD Partner Beena McDonald Appointed to Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in Instructure Data Breach Litigation

On August 24, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah appointed Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP (CSKD) Partner Beena M. McDonald to the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in In re: Instructure Data Breach Litigation (Case No. 2:26-cv-00374-RJS-CMR).

Following an evaluation of 24 applications, the Court selected Ms. McDonald as one of six attorneys to serve on the Executive Committee for Track 1 (Individual Users Track), one of three interim litigation tracks established to manage the case.

The lawsuit arises from an April 25–26, 2026 cyberattack in which an unauthorized actor exploited a vulnerability in Instructure’s Canvas learning management system, compromising the sensitive personal information of millions of students, teachers, and staff across roughly 9,000 educational institutions worldwide.
