College Student Health Insurance Fees  – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating whether certain colleges and universities deceptively include health insurance charges on tuition bills without clearly disclosing the existence and nature of the charge and without providing clear information about how to opt out when health coverage already exists.

Many colleges require students to maintain health insurance as a condition of enrollment. In practice, however, numerous schools automatically enroll students in a school-selected Student Health Insurance Plan (“SHIP”) and charge thousands of dollars per academic year unless a waiver is timely submitted and approved. Parents and students report that these charges are often included in lump sum tuition bills and not separately stated.  Further, information about the charge and how to opt out is often difficult to find.

CSK&D is investigating potential class action claims to address these practices.

If you are a student or parent and believe you were affected by these practices, please fill out the form below with details about your situation.
