Allianz Life Insurance Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit relating to a significant data breach at Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (“Allianz”). Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Allianz is a major provider of retirement and life insurance products serving approximately 1.4 million customers in the United States.
According to a breach notice filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, a cybersecurity incident compromised the personal information of Allianz’s U.S. customer base, as well as certain financial professionals and company employees.
What Happened at Allianz?
According to recent reports, on July 16, 2025, a malicious actor gained unauthorized access to a third-party, cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system used by Allianz. The breach was reportedly enabled through a social engineering attack, which allowed the threat actor to bypass security measures and access sensitive data stored in the platform. As a result, the attacker was able to obtain personally identifiable information (PII) linked to a majority of Allianz’s 1.4 million customers, as well as financial professionals and certain employees.
What Information Was Compromised?
The full scope of the breach is still under investigation, but according to Allianz’s notice and public reports, the exposed data may include, but is not limited to, the following:
-
Full Names
-
Social Security Numbers
-
Dates of Birth
-
Mailing Addresses
-
Policy or Customer Identification Numbers
-
Contact Information (Phone and Email)
-
Potential Employment or Licensing Details (for financial professionals)
Why Is This Important?
The exposure of this sensitive information places affected individuals at a significantly increased risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and other related harms. The compromised data, particularly Social Security numbers and financial account details, can be exploited by criminals for years to come.
