Weyerhaeuser Flak Jacket Formaldehyde Odor- Class Action Investigation

Weyerhaeuser Flak Jacket Formaldehyde Odor- Class Action Investigation

Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who purchased or installed TJI Joists, manufactured by the Weyerhaeuser Company, that had been outfitted with the Company’s reformulated Flak Jacket coating. The Company’s Flak Jacket Coating is applied to the joists for increased fire protection. Homeowners with houses built using these joists, which contain the reformulated coating, have complained that the product’s coating emits a nauseating, pickle-like odor, making their homes inhabitable.

In response, the Company has acknowledged that they recently changed the formula for the joist coating, adding a formaldehyde-based resin to the mix. It is alleged that this formaldehyde-based resin is the cause of the odor issues, and many homeowners are concerned that there may be potential health problems associated with the formaldehyde being used.
