Volkswagen, Audi Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating a potential data breach class action lawsuit against car manufacturer Volkswagen Group, following recent news that it detected a security breach of sensitive breach on network where sensitive marketing and sales data is stored.
On June 11,2021, Volkswagen reported that a large cache of sales data used for marketing and sales purposes between 2014 and 2019 was exposed as result of the breach beginning in August 2019 and ending in May 2021. Volkswagen was alerted to an unauthorized third party accessing this data on March 10, 2021. Data exposed may have included the following: model type of vehicle purchased/leased/inquired about, vehicle ID numbers, first and last names, personal/business mailing addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
Additionally, roughly 90,000 Audi customers and potential buyers may have had additional sensitive details exposed in relation to any purchase or lease eligibility including: social security numbers, account or loan numbers, driver’s license numbers, data of birth, and tax identification numbers.
