The Alcohol & Drug Testing Service Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit relating to a significant data breach at The Alcohol & Drug Testing Service, Inc. (“TADTS”). Based out of Houston, Texas, TADTS provides drug and alcohol testing services—often in connection with pre-employment and workplace screening. According to a formal notice filed with the Maine Attorney General, the breach compromised the sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) of approximately 748,763 individuals.
What Happened?
According to its public breach notice, TADTS detected unauthorized access to its computer systems on or around July 9, 2024, following an external hacking incident that began on July 4, 2024. While the breach was discovered promptly, TADTS waited more than a year to notify affected individuals, issuing formal notices on July 17, 2025.
To date, TADTS has not offered any credit monitoring or identity theft protection services to the nearly 750,000 individuals whose data may have been compromised.
What Information Was Compromised?
The investigation confirmed that the unauthorized actor accessed and acquired a wide range of highly sensitive personal data. According to TADTS’s own website, the compromised information may have included, but is not limited to:
-
Full Names
-
Dates of Birth
-
Social Security Numbers
-
Driver’s License or State ID Numbers
-
Passport Numbers
-
Financial Account and Payment Card Information
-
Email and Login Credentials (usernames and passwords)
-
Health Insurance Information
-
USCIS or Alien Registration Numbers
-
Biometric Data
Why Is This Important?
The exposure of this sensitive information places affected individuals at a significantly increased risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and other related harms. The compromised data, particularly Social Security numbers and financial account details, can be exploited by criminals for years to come.
