Supplemental Health Insurance – Life Insurance of North America misrepresented its insurance as a Veteran’s Benefit

Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Life Insurance of North America (LINA) for deceptive practices in the marketing and administering of its supplemental health insurance products to veterans. Some consumers have purchased this insurance with the understanding that LINA’s hospital indemnity policy (offering outpatient surgical benefits) as well as its cancer-only policy would offer double cash benefits in times of great need. However, these benefits were not provided for in-hospital (or outpatient) cancer treatment with the exception of hospital confinement. Also, the policy failed to cover various other cancer treatments altogether including outpatient radiation and chemotherapy. Additionally, LINA claimed that rates are held as low as possible but on average less than 10% of every premium dollar was paid out for benefits under the cancer-only policy and less than 30% under the indemnity policy.
