Student Loan Borrower Default Upon Cosigner’s Death or Bankruptcy – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of student loan borrowers that have had their private lenders automatically place them into default when their cosigner died or filed for bankruptcy.  It has been alleged that certain private student loan lenders automatically place the borrower into default after his or her cosigner dies or files for bankruptcy.  It is further alleged that this practice is engaged in even when the borrower is making timely payments and that the borrower is often not given the opportunity to pay the full outstanding amount before being placed into default.
