St. Joseph’s /Candler Healthcare System Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action lawsuit relating to news that Savannah, GA based healthcare system St. Joseph’s/Candler was the victim of a recent data breach.
Specifically, it is reported that St. Joseph’s discovered an unauthorized party had gained access to its network between December 18, 2020 and June 17, 2021. The hackers had encrypted files it gained access to, and demanded a ransom from St. Joseph’s for the stolen data. It is estimated that the data breach compromised the following sensitive health-related information of an unspecified number of patients: names,address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license number, patient account number, billing account number, financial information, health insurance plan member ID, medical record number, dates of service, provider names, and medical and clinical treatment information regarding care received from St. Joseph’s
