Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating potential class action claims against resort operators and booking companies that fail to disclose resort fees at the time of booking. Mandatory resort fees are often charged by major hotels and resorts for amenities in destinations like California, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Orlando, but many times these fees are not adequately disclosed at the time of booking, leading to significant, unanticipated expense for vacationers. Hotels may hide the resort fees through the advertisement of low room rates, and by not mentioning the resort fees in the reservation total. The Federal Trade Commission has warned hotel operators that online reservation sites that provide a deceptively low estimate of what consumers can expect to pay for their hotel rooms may violate the law.
