PPP Fraud and False Claims Act Investigation

The Chimicles firm is actively investigating potential cases of fraud related to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Under this program, companies received forgivable PPP loans from the federal governments in order to help maintain their payroll and employment numbers during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Under the terms of the program, the loans can generally be forgiven if at least 60% of the money goes to payroll.  There have been reports of companies that may have made fraudulent misrepresentations in order to obtain or keep PPP money. Such money may be recoverable under the False Claims Act, which allows private whistleblowers and attorneys to recoup money on behalf of the federal government.
