Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against employers that pay their employees with payroll debit cards. Many companies are now paying their employees with payroll debit cards instead of with cash, checks, or via direct deposit. Debit cards often come with a number of restrictions and a variety of fees. These fees can include, for example, fees for withdrawing money at an ATM, making balance inquiries, replacing the card, and/or inactivity fees for not using it frequently enough. C&T is investigating whether this practice violates state and federal minimum wage and other laws. It has been reported that McDonalds, Taco Bell, Walgreens, Home Depot and Wal-Mart may be engaging in this practice.
