Paypal/ Honey Browser Fraud-Cheating Influencers and Content Creators Out of Commissions – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against PayPal concerning its Honey browser extension. We believe that PayPal may be using Honey to cheat online influencers, bloggers, marketers, YouTubers and other content creators who participate in commission programs with online retailers out of their rightful sales commissions.
Influencers who partner with online retailers are able to direct their followers to view specific products through affiliate links. If a customer clicks on that affiliate link and purchases the product, the influencer who promoted that product earns a commission from the retailer for referring their product. Prior to completing the online purchase, customers who have downloaded the Honey browser extension will see a pop-up to click to check for discounts. Reports indicate that once consumers click on this Honey pop-up, it digitally removes the credit (or “attribution”) rightfully due to the influencer who promoted the product, and secretly replaces it with credit to go to Paypal for the sale and the commission that goes with it.
Many influencers have also encouraged their viewers to download the Honey browser extension, only to get shortchanged out of commissions because of it.
If you are an online influencer, blogger, marketer, YouTuber or other content creator who participated in an affiliate commission program with an online merchant, or know of any influencers who participated in an affiliate commission program with an online merchant, please fill out the form below to join the investigation and speak directly with one of our attorneys.
