National Western Life Insurance Company Data Breach  – Class Action Investigation

CSK&D is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against National Western Life Insurance Company (“NWL”) related to a recent data breach. On August 15, 2020, the Company discovered that malware had infected some of company’s computer systems. Upon closer investigation, the Company discovered that the malware had exposed sensitive data associated with a number of its life insurance and annuity policyholders.

In or around January  2021, the Company began sending out formal notice to all those who may have been potentially impacted by the breach, including an unspecified number of policyholders and beneficiaries of these insurance policies. As result of the breach, the following information of an unspecified number of policyholders and beneficiaries of insurance policies provided through NWL was compromised: name, policy number for either current of former life insurance or annuity policy.
