Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Data Breach Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson‑Smith LLP is investigating potential class action claims against Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital following a reported data security incident that is alleged to have exposed the personal and highly sensitive protected health information of more than 257,000 individuals.
What Happened?
Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, a 226‑bed hospital located in Nacogdoches, Texas, recently disclosed a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to its computer network and information systems. According to notice filings with the Maine Attorney General, the incident was identified on January 31, 2026. A forensic investigation determined that a hacker first gained access to the network on or about January 15, 2026 and remained within the system for approximately two weeks before detection.
Notification letters were mailed to affected individuals on March 31, 2026. As of April 1, 2026, no threat group has publicly claimed responsibility for the incident.
What Information Was Compromised?
Based on Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital’s investigation, the potentially impacted information varies by individual but may include highly sensitive personal and medical data, including (but not limited to):names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical record numbers, account numbers, health plan beneficiary numbers, and for certain individuals, full face photographic images.
Why Is This Important?
The exposure of sensitive healthcare and identity information, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and medical identifiers, places affected individuals at increased risk of identity theft, medical identity fraud, and other forms of financial misuse.
