C&T is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Mitsubishi relating to the recent news that Mitsubishi intentionally falsified fuel mileage data for several vehicle models.
Officials are now investigating Mitsubishi Motors Corp. after the company admitted that its employees manipulated fuel efficiency data of 625,000 light vehicles manufactured by the company. Mitsubishi has identified that its employees intentionally falsified fuel mileage data for several models.
The inaccurate tests involved:
- 157,000 Mitsubishi eK wagon and eK Space light passenger cars, and
- 468,000 Dayz and Dayz Roox vehicles (produced for Nissan Motor Co.).
These models are referred to as “minicars” and their main attraction is supposed to be that they get better mileage. Mitsubishi president Tetsuro Aikawa has identified, however, that “[t]he wrongdoing was intentional. It is clear the falsification was done to make the mileage look better.”
Reports indicate that the vehicles subject to data falsification include model years 2013 and later. Mitsubishi’s misrepresentations relating to fuel mileage data may be actionable under state and federal consumer and other laws.
