Mission Health Data Breach-Class Action Investigation

CSK&D is investigating a potential data breach class action lawsuit against Mission Health following recent news that it detected a security breach in the hospital system’s  database and servers for its e-commerce website.

Mission Health is a North Carolina based health services provider  The company has recently disclosed that an unauthorized third-party group has gained access to its payment portal for its e-commerce website. The hacker used malicious coding embedded on the portal, to capture any payment information entered into it between March 27, 2016 to June 26, 2019.

The information exposed in this data breach may include customer names, addresses, and credit card information (card numbers, security codes).  This sensitive information is valuable to criminals who place stolen payment card data for sale on the dark web, which other criminals purchase in order to perpetrate identity theft and other frauds. Criminals can also use this stolen information to create counterfeit cards to purchase high-priced items from other retailers.
