Misleading Oil Viscosity Claims – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of consumers who purchased certain brands of motor oil.  New Jersey recently banned 19 brands of motor oil after laboratory tests revealed the products’ viscosity failed to match what was promised on their labels.  The use of a motor oil with viscosity levels that are either too high or too low for a vehicle’s engine specifications may result in the risk of engine failure, excess engine wear, and/or decreased fuel efficiency.  The banned motor oils are listed below:

  • Auto Club Motor Oil SAE 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, and 20W-50
  • Black Knight Motor Oil 5-30 and 10-40
  • LubeState Motor Oil SAE 10W-30
  • MaxiGuard MG 10-30, MG 10-40, MG 20-50 and MG SAE30
  • Orbit Motor Oil 5-20 and 10-40
  • TruStar Motor Oil 10-30
  • U.S. Economy Motor Oil 5-30, 10-40, and SAE 10W-40
  • U.S. Spirit Motor Oil SAE 10W-30 and SAE 10W-40
