Maui Jim Sunglasses: Nose Piece Screw Damage/Lens Cracking – Class Action Investigation

Maui Jim Sunglasses: Nose Piece Screw Damage/Lens Cracking – Class Action Investigation

C&T is investigating a potential class action lawsuit against sunglasses maker Maui Jim relating to reports that it does not repair damage to certain sunglasses within warranty. Specifically, C&T is investigating numerous consumer reports and complaints that Maui Jim’s rimless sunglasses are defective in that the screws that fasten the nose piece/bridge directly into the sunglasses lenses cause the lenses to crack. Consumer complaints indicate that some rimless style glasses are too delicate and that even ordinary use can cause these cracks too occur. Reports also indicate that Maui Jim may be refusing to cover this damage free of charge to customers within Maui Jim’s two-year warranty period.

The styles of Maui Jim sunglasses that may suffer from cracking include the following:

• Kapalua
• Makaha
• Lahaina
• Breakwall
• Ka’anapali
