Lightbulb Performance and Efficiency False Advertising – Class Action Investigation

C&T is investigating recent reports that certain lightbulb manufacturers are misleading consumers about the brightness and energy use of their products. Recent testing indicates that a number of companies are exaggerating energy performance up to 25% higher than that claimed on packaging. Those companies include but are not necessarily limited to:

• Ikea
• Philips
• GE
• Osram

The discrepancy is caused by manufacturers taking advantage of leeways – known as “tolerances” in official testing procedures for bulbs.
