HSBC USA Data Breach – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating potential class action claims following reports of an alleged data breach at HSBC USA. On the dark web, hackers have claimed to have accessed a massive customer database containing highly sensitive financial and personal information.
What Happened at HSBC USA?
In late October 2025, threat actors claimed on a popular data leak forum to have obtained a database of HSBC USA customer information through a coordinated effort. According to reports, there are indications that a sample of the leaked data is legitimate. The data sample appears to be several weeks old and may include the bank’s corporate and institutional clients. The total number of impacted customers has not yet been confirmed pending further investigation into the incident.
What Information Was Allegedly Compromised?
The database allegedly accessed by hackers may include, but is not limited to, the following information:
- Full names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers (SSNs)
- Dates of birth
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Bank account numbers
- Account balances
- Transaction histories
- Stock orders
Why Is This Important?
The exposure of this combination of personal and financial data places affected individuals at a severe and increased risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and other related harms. Threat actors could potentially use this information to carry out a variety of fraudulent activities, including unauthorized account access, applying for fraudulent loans, and credit card fraud. Because Social Security numbers can be exploited for decades, affected customers may face an extended period of vulnerability.
