GEO Group Data Breach – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating a potential data breach class action lawsuit against a Florida-based private prison operator, “GEO Group” following recent news of an alleged cyberattack involving the possible theft of sensitive information.

The GEO Group operates 120 jails, rehabilitation facilities, processing centers, and community reentry centers in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa. In the United States, GEO Group also operates some of the ICE detention centers.

In a statement from the GEO Group, it discovered this data breach on August 19th. The company cut off all connections on the compromised corporate servers and facilities, data centers, and the corporate office.

The information potentially exposed in this cyberattack include: name, address, date of birth, social security number, driver’s license number, employee ID number, medical treatment information, and other health-related information.
