Ford Electronic Key Systems – Potential Lawsuit

Chimicles & Tikellis is investigating a potential lawsuit related to electronic key systems on certain Ford vehicles that may not comply with the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or that may otherwise be unsafe.  An electronic key system is a feature associated with the push-button start and stop buttons on newer vehicles that do not use traditional metal keys.  NHTSA is currently investigating whether this feature meets applicable safety standards related to rollaway prevention, and whether there are any visual or audible alerts displayed in certain situations (such as when the car is turned off with the transition not in the park gear, or when the engine is not shut off).  There have reportedly been several carbon monoxide related deaths linked to electronic key systems.
