CSK&D is investigating a potential data breach class action lawsuit relating to recent news that Dental Care Alliance (“DCA”), a dental support company with more than 320 affiliated dental practices from 20 states, was the victim of a ransomware attack involving the compromise of sensitive patient data.
Specifically, it is reported that DCA first discovered the breach on October 11, 2020, resulting from an investigation that was first initiated on September 18, 2020. DCA managed to contain the attack by October 13, 2020. Notwithstanding knowledge of the breach for nearly two months, DCA only just began sending notice to the million or so patients whose sensitive data was potentially compromised as result of the breach.
As a result of the breach, it is alleged that the following information of an estimated 1,004,304 people may have been compromised: names, addresses, dental diagnosis and treatment information, patient account information, billing information, bank account numbers, the name of the patient’s dentist, and health insurance information.
