Community Health Center Data Breach  – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving Connecticut healthcare provider Community Health Center (“CHC”). CHC reported to the Maine Attorney General that personally identifying data (“PII”) belonging to an estimated 1.06 million individuals was compromised as result of a cyberattack.

What Happened at CHC?

On or around October 14, 2024, CHC discovered that an unauthorized user had gained access to its computer system.

CHC’s internal investigation confirmed that the PII exposed includes sensitive personal and medical information including but not limited to the following: name, date of birth, addresses, social security number, medical diagnoses, treatment details, test results, and health insurance information.

Why is it Important to you?

The data breach, if confirmed, could have severe implications for the affected users, leading to potential identity theft, financial fraud, and further cyber attacks. The hacker group’s bold move to put this data on sale goes on to show the growing menace of cybercrime and the increasing sophistication of these cyber adversaries.
