Boston Children’s Health Physicians Data Breach  – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP is investigating a potential class action lawsuit relating to a data breach incident involving Boston Children’s Health Physicians (“BCHP”), a health system of over 300 pediatric physicians and specialists in 60 locations across New York and Connecticut.

What Happened at BCHP?

On or around September 6 , the Company’s IT vendor discovered that an unauthorized user had gained access to BCHP’s computer system. BCHP hired a third-party forensic who confirmed a cache of sensitive data was taken from their system. The ransomware group responsible for the cyberattack BianLian  compromised sensitive personal health information, including medical information belonging to an unspecified number of patients,  current and former employees, and/or guarantors.

The information compromised includes, but not limited to: name, social security number, mailing address, date of birth, driver’s license (and state-issued ID) numbers, medical record numbers, health insurance information, billing information, and treatment information.

Why is it Important to you?

The data breach, if confirmed, could have severe implications for the affected users, leading to potential identity theft, financial fraud, and further cyber attacks. The hacker group’s bold move to put this data on sale goes on to show the growing menace of cybercrime and the increasing sophistication of these cyber adversaries.
