Avis Data Breach – Class Action Investigation

Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith is investigating a potential class action relating to a data breach incident involving Avis Rent a Car System, LLC (“Avis”), a car rental company.  The Company confirmed that 299,006 individuals had their information taken in a data breach incident according to a filing with the Maine Attorney General.

What Happened at Avis? 

On or around  August 3, 2024, an unauthorized user gained access to Avis’s system. Avis retained a cybersecurity firm to conduct further investigation to confirm the scope of the breach.

Following the investigation’s completion, it was confirmed that the personal information belonging to numerous Avis customers The information compromised may have included, but not limited to the following:  name, mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, credit card numbers and expiration dates, and driver’s license numbers.

Why is it Important to you? 

The data breach, if confirmed, could have severe implications for the affected users, leading to potential identity theft, financial fraud, and further cyber attacks. The hacker group’s bold move to put this data on sale goes on to show the growing menace of cybercrime and the increasing sophistication of these cyber adversaries.
