2019-2023 Audi “Electrical System Malfunction”- Pending Class Action Lawsuit

CSK&D LLP is court-appointed interim co-lead counsel in a pending lawsuit in federal court on behalf of owners and lessees of 2019-2023 model year Audi Q8, Q7, A6, A7, and A8 vehicles, arising out of defective Belt Starter Generators (“BSG”), which are sometimes referred to as alternators or generators.

As alleged in the class action complaint, these vehicles are equipped with a mild-hybrid electrical system containing a defective Belt Starter Generator (“BSG”) that is prone to failure. When the BSG fails, the vehicle no longer has sufficient electrical energy needed to power the vehicle safely resulting in a complete electrical system failure in the car. These incidences are unpredictable and can happen when driving on busy roadways. Often various error messages will flash on the dash displaying “Electrical System Malfunction,” “Drive System: malfunction! Please contact Service,” and/or other warnings.   The vehicle will then enter into a limp mode and/or shut off completely.  This sudden deceleration or inability to accelerate may create an unreasonable safety situation for the driver as well as for others on the road. Further, many safety features will not function properly during this the electrical system failure.

Consumers report that there is a nationwide backorder for replacement parts. Owners have been forced to wait an inordinate amount of time, often several months until the part becomes available. The replacement BSG is allegedly of the same design without any modifications meaning that there is allegedly a continued risk of the BSG failing.
