Audi and VW Start/Stop Defect – Class Action Investigation
CSK&D is investigating a potential class action lawsuit on behalf of owners and lessees of certain 2017-2020 Audi and Volkswagen vehicles that reportedly suffer from a defect relating to the automatic start/stop feature.
Start/stop technology is a relatively new feature in automobiles that automatically shuts down and restarts the car engine to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions while a vehicle is stopped in traffic. However, consumers report that the start/stop flaw in Audi and VW vehicles results in the “stop” feature engaging prematurely (i.e., the engine stopping too early when attempting to slow down) and a delay in the engine restarting when drivers attempt to accelerate from a stopped position (i.e., a delay in the “start” feature). Consumers report that this issue causes cars to slow down prematurely and to experience sudden, delayed acceleration (called lurching). Unintended slowdown and rapid acceleration create a significant safety hazard for owners and lessees of these vehicles, their passengers, and other drivers on the road.
