Apple, Nike, Google, Fitbit, and Samsung Watch and Fitness Tracker Wrist Bands Containing PFAS “Forever Chemicals” – Class Action Investigation
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (“CSK&D”) is investigating a potential class action on behalf of consumers who purchased smartwatches and fitness trackers from Apple, Nike, Google, Fitbit, and Samsung with wrist bands that may contain harmful levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals.”
The watches and fitness trackers are designed and promoted as supporting health and wellness, environmental sustainability, and everyday use, and are often worn throughout the day and night. But a new report that tested these bands showed elevated levels of the forever chemicals found in midrange ($15-30) and expensive (>$30) bands, thereby exposing the skin to forever chemicals in the process.
PFAS are synthetic chemicals used to make products resistant to water, sweat and oil. Due to these properties, manufacturers include these chemicals in many consumer products, including smartwatch and fitness tracker wrist bands. However, these substances are known to accumulate in the body over time and have been linked to serious health issues, including cancer, kidney and liver disease, immune system disorders, and birth defects.
If you own a smartwatch or fitness tracker from Apple, Nike, Google, Fitbit, and Samsung and believe the wrist band may contain these harmful PFAS chemicals, please fill-out the form provided below in order to speak directly with one of our attorneys.
