CSK&D is investigating potential data breach class action lawsuits relating to recent news that nine different dating apps were recently victims of a data breach exposing highly sensitive data stored on a single Amazon Web Services App. The dating apps were built for those with niche tastes, and they include: 3somes, CougarD, Gay Daddy Bear, Xpal, BBW Dating, CasualX, SugarD, and Herpes D.
Specifically, a research team for vpnMentor discovered the breach on May 24, 2020. The cache of exposed data included details of user profiles and private conversations happening on these apps; they also included media files containing photos, voice messages, and audio recordings; private chat logs between users, evidence of financial transactions and other financial data exchanged between users, and other highly sensitive information. In the same vein of the Ashley Madison app, the exposed data leaves affected users in a very vulnerable place, opening the door to a risk of bullying, extortion, and/or criminal hackers threatening to expose data that could have negative repercussions in their lives if exposed.
