Coalbed Methane Gas (“CBM”) Potential Litigation

C&T is investigating reports that certain energy companies have been cheating Virginia landowners out of billions of dollars by drilling wells in southwest Virginia’s coalbed to remove methane gas (CBM) without first obtaining legal claim to the resource from the landowners. Energy companies with coal rights have been claiming the CBM rights as their own and profiting from the production and sale without the landowner having first conveyed their CBM nor leased their CBM production rights to the energy company.
